Universal Gastroenterology was founded by
Dr Arun Gupta, a board-credentialled gastroenterologist (gut specialist) who trained in Melbourne, Sydney and the United Kingdom. He returns to his hometown of Melbourne after working in Canberra in a senior role, where he mentored junior staff in clinical skills and endoscopy technique. He also participated in an academic capacity, as clinical lecturer at the Australian National University and a principal investigator in multi-national clinical research trials for inflammatory bowel disease.
Moorabbin is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 15 km south-east of Melbourne’s central business district. Its local government area is the City of Kingston. At the 2016 census, Moorabbin had a population of 5,895. Most of the eastern side of Moorabbin has been an industrial area since the first development in the mid-1960s. Major businesses with a presence in the area include Coca-Cola. The eponymous Moorabbin airport is actually located in between the southern Melbourne suburbs of Heatherton, Cheltenham, Dingley Village and Mentone.

Holmesglen Private Hospital opened its doors in January 2017 and has proven to be extremely popular with patients south of the Yarra. Holmesglen offers a very broad range of services including a vast array of visiting specialists, a 24-hour emergency department and an intensive care unit. There is a first-class endoscopy unit which forms part of the operating theatre complex.
Dr Gupta also consults at the new Cabrini Specialist Centre in Hawthorn East are conveniently located just near Camberwell junction at Level 2, 141 Camberwell Road, Hawthorn East. These brand new specialist consulting rooms are an outpost from Cabrini Hospital, which has their main hospital on Wattletree Road in Malvern. In addition, Dr Gupta consults at Specialists @Burwood, located near the intersection of Toorak and Warrigal Roads, at 367 Warrigal Road, Burwood.
Dr Gupta has a strong interest in performing high-quality gastroscopy and colonoscopy and diagnosis and management of all aspects of gastroenterology. We manage all aspects of gastroenterology, hepatology (liver problems) and pancreatico-biliary disease. He has an interest in bowel cancer screening via colonoscopy, and the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease and dyspepsia in particular. Those with a family history of bowel cancer or a past history of colonic polyps are suitable patients. He takes a holistic approach and personalises his recommendations to each patient.
